Professor Yuan Liu
Assistant Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science

Prof. Yuan Liu received his B.S. in Physics from Tsinghua University, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics (William R. Potter Prize, highest honor) from Brown University. He was a postdoctoral researcher in the Research Laboratory of Electronics and Department of Physics at MIT prior to joining the NC State faculty in 2024. He is the NSF QCIS Faculty Fellow, and holds a joint appointment across three departments at NC State. He is a Scialog Fellow and recipient of the ECE Rising Star Award. Email. CV.

Dr. Joel Bierman
Postdoctoral Scholar at NC State
Joel received his B.S. in physics and mathematics with a minor in chemistry from Indiana University Bloomington in 2019. He received his Ph.D. in physics from Duke University where he worked on developing quantum algorithms for solving the electronic structure problem in quantum chemistry. His research interests include quantum information processing and quantum computational chemistry. Email

Dr. Younes Javanmard
Research Scholar at NC State
Younes Javanmard earned his Ph.D. from the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems and TU Dresden, where he worked on the quantum information aspects of strongly correlated many-body systems and developed state-of-the-art numerical techniques such as tensor networks, Monte Carlo methods, and related approaches. He has industry experience as a machine learning engineer, working on reinforcement learning, deep learning, and graph neural networks, as well as quantum algorithms, quantum optimization, and scientific software development. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Quantum Valley Lower Saxony and Leibniz University Hannover in the Quantum Information and Quantum Optics groups, focusing on digital quantum simulation of quantum many-body systems. His research interest is in applied quantum information and computation, specifically, in hybrid quantum devices. Email

Elin Ranjan Das
Ph.D. Student, Electrical and Computer Engineering, NC State
Elin received his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh in May 2023. He worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of CSE, BRAC University (June ‘23 - July ‘24) and also as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of EEE, BUET (November ‘23 - June ‘24). His research interests include quantum algorithms for material simulation, material design for quantum sensor, and quantum chemistry. His hobbies are reading books, astronomy, and trekking. Email

Masoud Hakimi Heris (Mas)
Ph.D. Student, Electrical and Computer Engineering, NC State
Mas’s passion lies in theoretical quantum optics and photonics. He is currently engaged in the development of hybrid CV-DV algorithms and quantum control with a focus on trapped-ion platforms. His prior experience encompasses cavity QED and quantum dots for quantum photonic applications, MEMS/NEMS for strain characterization in 2D TMDC materials, and investigation of Single-Electron transistors, gained during his two master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. Kevin Joven Noriega
Ph.D. Student, Electrical and Computer Engineering, NC State
Kevin J. Joven is a Ph.D. student in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, focusing on the design and theory of new quantum algorithms and the study of control techniques for hybrid CV-DV architectures and their availability for new applications in quantum information science. He is interested in possible applications in physical and chemical systems using symmetry aspects of the systems. Also, the implementation of QEC codes for CV-DV systems. Email.

Xi Lu earned his B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from Zhejiang University in 2021. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the same institution. His recent research interests include the generalizations and applications of quantum signal processing. Email.
